Goals either side of half-time from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne were enough for Pep Guardiola’s men to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points.
Somehow, it took City 45 minutes to find the opener. Where they have been putting teams to the sword in recent games, they simply couldn’t find the final killer pass in the opening stages. De Bruyne, as always, was pulling the strings in midfield, but none of Leroy Sane or Raheem Sterling’s multiple cut backs found their intended target.
Finally, just before the break, the Citizens took the lead. Sterling flicked a ball in behind the Leicester defence that Silva ran onto and squared for Jesus. The striker had all the time in the world and easily tapped home from close range.
The visitor’s bright first half showing was, however, marred by an injury to John Stones. The centre-back pulled up holding his hamstring as he chased a Leicester through ball on the half-hour mark.
City doubled their lead immediately after the restart. Sane picked up the ball on the left and found De Bruyne on the edge of the box. He skipped past a Leicester challenge before rocketing a left-footed strike into the top corner.
They could have made it three moments later when Kyle Walker picked out Jesus in the middle, but he made a mess of his strike and Schmeichel saved.
Leicester came close to pulling one back when a ricocheted pass found its way through to Vardy, who chipped over the onrushing Ederson. However, the flag went up as the striker was standing in an offside position, but that didn't stop Walker from racing back to clear off the line.
At times, City were faultless in the second period. Their sublime passing game was shown again when Sterling and Silva play a one-two, allowing the former to get to the byline and cut back into a dangerous area. There was a melee of players at the goal mouth, but Schmeichel eventually managed to clear at the near post.
City closed out a very quiet end to the game with ease. Guardiola will be happy with his side’s performance despite their struggles to finish, while Claude Puel will certainly be hoping for better performances in the future.
