The French forward has apologised to Atletico fans after extending his Calderon stay until June 2022. In recent months, Griezmann has dominated the headlines, with many rumours circling about what his future would hold. The 26-year-old went as far as to say that there was a '6 out of 10' chance that he would sign for Manchester United this summer. However, with United seemingly cooling their interest as they explore the possibility of signing Alvaro Morata and Atletico's transfer ban being upheld, Griezmann has instead extended his contract with Diego Simeone's side by a further year.
In an interview with the club website, Griezmann held his hands up and asked for forgiveness from Atletico fans, "the first thing I want to do is apologise to the people who misunderstood my statements" he stated before taking a swipe at the sections of the media that "want to make news where there isn't any". Since moving to Spain in his early teens, Griezmann has developed into one of Europe's finest players. Following his move to Atletico from Basque outfit Real Sociedad in 2014, he has finished as Atletico's top scorer every season, racking up 83 goals in 160 games for the club.
Griezmann ended by stating that he would continue to give his all for the club, as he has done since he joined. Meanwhile, Atletico's sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero proclaimed the extension "great news" and declared Griezmann to be "one of the best players in the world".
