Tottenham's win over Stoke on Saturday was the club's first Premier League win in over a month, following defeats to north London rivals Arsenal and Leicester City, as well as disappoint draws with West Brom and Watford.
That run of results saw Spurs drop to seventh in the Premier League, despite having previously been considered title contenders and Dier insists that Spurs must learn from their mistakes in order to avoid repeating them.
"Whenever you go through bad periods, I think the most important thing is to learn from them and make sure they don't happen again," he told 'Sky Sports'
"The manager's mentality never changes. The mentality is always to just keep working hard and keep improving.
"We're just trusting what we've always done and sticking to the basics."
With a plethora of teams fighting it out to finish the season in the top four, Dier believes that this season may be one of the most competitive Premier League campaigns on record.
"Some of the teams in the top six have spent a lot of money and really improved their squads," he explained.
"It's extremely competitive at the moment and it's going to be the hardest season yet."
