Derby suspsended Pearson on Tuesday for an unknown reason ahead of the Rams' Championship clash with Cardiff.
However, the former Leicester City manager is expected to be relieved of his duties very soon and have targeted Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner as his replacement.
Wagner spent four years at Borussia Dortmund where he was assistant manager to Jurgen Klopp, before moving to West Yorkshire in November last year.
Huddersfield have got off to an impressive start in England's second-tier and top the Championship with 22 points from 10 games which comes as a surprise given Huddersfield's 19th-placed finish last season.
Meanwhile, the new season hasn't gone so well for Derby and Nigel Pearson. The Rams - who finished fifth last season and were tipped by many to be promoted this season - lie in a lowly 20th position with just nine points from 10 games.
Besides Wagner, Gary Rowett, Neil Warnock, Paul Lambert and Steve Bruce have also been linked with the position.
