'Los Blancos' have been on the look out for a striker ever since allowing Alvaro Morata to join Chelsea in the summer and have been heavily linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner in recent weeks.
However, reports in Spain claim that it is Icardi, rather than Werner, that is Real's top target, with 'Diario Gol' going as far as to suggest that the date is already set for the Argentine's Real Madrid medical.
According to the Spanish publication, the 24-year-old will undergo his medical ahead of a move to the Bernabeu on December 26, which seems awfully close to Christmas if you ask me.
Inter captain Icardi is the club's top scorer this season, having bagged 16 goals in 15 Serie A games so far this campaign.
The news comes fresh off the back of reports that Real president Florentino Perez held a two-hour meeting with club bigwigs to discuss their plans for the January window, with a long-term successor to Keylor Navas and another option at centre-back, possible in the form of PSG's Marquinhos, also thought to be on the agenda.
However, Icardi will certainly not come cheap, with Inter unwilling to sell, the powerful frontman is likely to set Real back over £70m, according to English publication 'The Daily Mail'.
