Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi believes Edinson Cavani can step into the void left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and lead the line for the Ligue 1 champions.
Ibrahimovic has been the main man for the Parisian side over the past four seasons, winning the Ligue 1 player of the year a record three times, and scoring 156 goals for the club to take them way ahead of any other side in France's top tier.
The Sweden international's contract expires at the end of the month and his exit has already been confirmed, with the club being linked to various replacements such as Neymar, Alexandre Lacazette and even Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Al-Khelaifi believes Cavani, who has been pushed out wide with Ibrahimovic taking the central role, can become the prolific goalscorer next season and maintain the club's dominance in Ligue 1.
"I sometimes feel that the media does not see things well," he told Le Parisien.
"He [Ibrahimovic] was a scorer, a great scorer. [But] Cavani is one of the best in the world. Watch his goals throughout his career. Cavani is one of the best in this position, why look elsewhere?
"It is a change of the project. We will recruit players who bring more to the team. We will look for players who will help the team to take the next steps on the field.
"We need players who eat the grass, and are ready to die for the club and this jersey."
