Real Madrid are getting used to seeing their team lose at home against Barcelona. Too many defeats for a team that, historically, has dominated 'El Clasico'.
The 2-3 result in the 2016/17 season only confirmed the worrying statistic for the 'Blancos': They have only defeated their rivals 3 times at home in the last 9 years. And it is not down to a lack of matches.
There was only one fixture at the Bernabeu in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons, in which the Catalans came out on top 2-6 and 0-2, respectively. Twice Real hosted Barcelona in the 2010/11 season; in La Liga the match ended in a draw (1-1), while Barcelona trimphed in the Champions League (0-2), with a suberp strike from Messi.
'El Clasico' took place three times in 2011/12 and 2012/13. The 2011/12 Supercopa fixture was a tie at the Santiago Bernabeu (2-2), while the visitors took all three points in La Liga (1-3), and knocked out Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals (1-2).
In 2012/13, Real Madrid managed to beat Barcelona in the Supercopa (2-1), as well as winning in the league (2-1). The draw against Barca in the Copa del Rey semi-final (1-1) did not stop Madrid reaching the final.
Barcelona once again conquered the Bernabeu in 2013/14 with the famous 3-4 result. Since Luis Enrique's arrival, one victory for Real Madrid (3-1 in 2014/15) and two for Barcelona, last year's 0-4 and 2-3 this year.
Eight wins and three draws that have taken away Barcelona's Bernabeu stage fright, having become accustomed to winning in the Spanish capital. The days of Cruyff and Van Gaal's struggles on Madrid turf seem very distant now.
