Arsenal want to start contract negotiations with manager Arsene Wenger in order to stop the Frenchman taking the England manager's job.
Wenger has one year left on his current contract at Arsenal and England are said to be considering an approach for the Arsenal manager with a view to taking over when his contract ends.
The FA appear to be considering appointing an interim manager for a year, until Arsene Wenger becomes available.
Should Wenger extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium, it could end the FA's pursuit of the Frenchman and could leave them back at square one in terms of searching for a new manager. A deal also looks doubtful as England's first choice for the role of interim manager, Gareth Southgate, has said that he does not want to manage the senior side and wants to continue with the Under-21s.
Should Arsene stay or should he seek a new challenge with England?
