Arsene Wenger has finally put his foot down, insisting none of his Arsenal stars will leave the team this summer. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are both entering the final year of their respective contracts, with no extensions in sight.
The French manager is not the only one to think that the Gunners cannot afford to lose their best players, with German defender Per Mertesacker also making the same point: 'We have a strong squad and I think we do not want to lose any players so even in their final contract year, we need them. We cannot afford to lose them'.
'If we are talking about championships, then keeping our best players is key'. When asked about Sanchez, who is currently on holiday after the Confederations Cup, the German said: 'He is a warrior on the pitch and I think he wants to come back as quickly as possible'.
'He hates holidays and he hates to calm down so I am really looking forward to playing alongside him in my last season', Mertesacker said about the Chilean, though they could both be heading into their final season at the Emirates...
