Police say that at least 80 people are missing or presumed dead, but the final total will not be known until at least the end of the year.
The game was dedicated to the victims of the tragedy, with both clubs releasing statements before the game lending their support to those affected.
Proceeds from the match will be donated to the victims and their families, the FA confirmed via an official statement.
Families of the victims and survivors and emergency service personnel who attended the scene were invited to the game as guests.
Prior to kick off, flowers were laid by the side of the pitch and The Choir for Grenfell performed 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' to honour the victims.
This was followed by an impeccably observed minutes silence, with messages around the stadium reading 'For Grenfell'.
