Carlo Ancelotti signed the Spanish World Cup winner for £50 million at Chelsea in 2011, but Fernando Torres' form was never as good as it had been when he played for Liverpool.
But, since the 32-year-old has joined Atletico Madrid, under the management of his former team-mate Diego Simeone, he has found a new lease of life.
“He was given the chance to be back at the team where he was born and raised,” Ancelotti told Goal. “That gave him extra motivation after some years in which he wasn’t able to give his best.
“He’s doing it again at Atletico Madrid.”
